Summer Break: Day 48 – Columbia River Gorge: Scenic Route

Today was a spectacular day.  Anyways, here I go.

I woke up at 8:55AM, and headed downstairs to the lobby of our hotel, where breakfast was served.  This Best Western hotel had an assortment of breakfast choices.  Anyways, I had egg, bacon, hashbrowns, and a biscuit.  After indulging in it, I headed back upstairs to surf the internet, and to get ready and leave.

At around 10AM, we left the hotel.  Since we were going sightseeing all day, we went to Subway, located at the Premium Outlets (which we were at yesterday), and bought a two subs.  My dad prepared his lunch using the food he got from the complimentary breakfast.  Entering the city of Troutdale, we headed down Oregon US-30, which is a very scenic route that goes along the Columbia River.  We stopped at multiple sightseeing places, some which overlooked the Columbia River, while some featured spectacular waterfalls.

At around 1PM, we stopped at a picnic area near another waterfall, and ate our Subway sandwiches.  We relaxed for a bit before continuing our sightseeing journey.

At 1:30PM, we continued on with looking at waterfalls.  We even went by the really famous one, although, sadly, I can not recall the name of it.  Anyways, photos will follow this post.  I did not get to see all the waterfalls, as I fell asleep for a bit.

When I awoke from my nice nap in the car, I was greeted by roads.  It turns out we were heading to a nearby dam.  We walked around and looked at fish for about 30 minutes there, and then left.  We left for the Bridge of the Gods, which is a bridge that separates Washington and Oregon state.  Also, for some reason, you have to pay a toll to cross the bridge.  Luckily, it was only a dollar, so we crossed it twice.

After that, we drove around Cascade Locks, looked around, and came back to Olive Garden to have dinner.  I had Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken.

With dinner finished, we headed back to our hotel, and I went swimming with my dad.  That killed most of the time remaining in the day.

Now, I have to sleep, so I’ll be blogging later.  Oh, and pictures will soon follow.

Summer Break: Day 47 – A nice car ride down to Columbia Gorge, Oregon.

Today, I woke up at 6AM.  I packed the last of my bags, which was just my laptop, and listened to some [email protected] while waiting for everyone else to get ready.  At approximately 7AM, we left home for the Pacific Crossing to get into the US.  We arrived at the border at around 7:45AM, and waited 50 minutes to get across because of some ridiculous people that kept cutting into line.  It was making me rage, and ironically, my dad, who usually rages, didn’t, which really surprised me.

Anyways, we got across at around 8:30AM, and stopped at a Jack in the Box at around 8:45AM, where we ate breakfast.  I got myself a breakfast burrito.  Man, it was SO good, but I could feel that fat kicking in right away.

We left at around 9:15AM, and continued on Interstate 5 – South.  I called shotgun, and set the GPS in the right direction.  I played some Chinese songs for my dad to listen, and then sharply fell asleep for about half an hour.  When I woke up, we were reaching a low level of gas (I should have rephrased this, but whatever…good for now…), so we stopped at a nearby Shell gas station, which I found on our GPS.

After filling up our car with gas, we kept going down I5-South, until around 12PM, where my mom needed to use the washroom really badly.  We found a nearby rest area by Manchester (I don’t remember too clearly), and everyone in the car took a nice “break.”

We decided to look for food soon after, and stopped 10 miles later, at Centralia, Washington, and ate at Arby’s.  I decided to take it easy, and ate a nice, filling salad (I know, who eats a salad at Arby’s?  Well, I do…).

We, again, continued down I5-South.  I fell asleep soon afterwards, and by the time I woke up, it was 2:10PM, and we were on I-205 South.  I was awake to see our car cross the Columbia River, which separates Washington and Oregon.  We got to our hotel soon after, at around 2:35PM.  It was a Best Western hotel, located near Troutdale, where it is apparently very scenic.  Anyways, we checked into the hotel, and left.

We left to go to Columbia Gorge Premium Outlets, which was close by.  My parents bought me a t-shirt from Guess, and other than that, we spent over two and a half hours walking around shops.

For dinner, we went to Red Lobster, which was located nearby.  We had to wait over an hour for a table, but oh well, I liked the food.  There, I had a…never mind.  I’ll let the picture below tell you:

Anyways, again, all you need to know is that it was good (…).

We got back at around 8:30PM, and went swimming at the hotel pool at around 9PM.  There was a small pool, with a hot tub and a sauna.  I moved around the three areas, and it was fun and relaxing.

Now it’s around 11PM, and I have to go sleep in preparation for sightseeing tomorrow.

Summer Break: Day 46 – Preparing for Oregon!

Today was another chill day.  In the morning, I woke up at around 10AM, and cleaned up around the house while preparing for our trip to Oregon tomorrow.  To be honest, I did nothing the whole day, though.  I just sat around like a big fatty, listened to music (The [email protected]), ate food, took naps, rewatched some Anime, and yeah, that was my day.  Oh, I was going to go get dollar drinks with Anduleh, but he was unavailable.  Oh, on the other hand, my family and I had dinner with Royce and his parents.  We haven’t seen them for quite a while, so yeah.  Right now, it’s 10PM, and I’m packing my bags for an early trip tomorrow morning.

Expect to see some pictures soon!

Summer Break: Day 45 – Relaxing day…

Woot.  Today was a relaxing day.  I woke up at 10AM, and drank a glass of milk.  Technically, I can list everything I did today.  Here I go:

  • Listened to some [email protected] music.
  • Watched Fairy Tail episode 43
  • Took multiple naps throughout the day…

And that’s about all I did today.  I don’t need to comment on my lonerness today, and I feel like sleeping.

More random blogging to be done later!

PS: Oh, I’m going to Oregon in a few days, so expect some pictures (FINALLY)!

Summer Break: Day 44 – The Lau’s take their leave.

Today, I woke up at 8AM.  The reason for this was because my uncle, aunt, and cousins were leaving for home today.  I ate a hot dog bun and a Mexican bun from Maxim, and drank a glass of milk.  We helped move their stuff into their car, and they left at around 10AM.  Tired from the lack of sleep, I went inside to our living room, played some [email protected] music, and took an hour nap.  It was refreshing.  I ate lunch soon after, and I don’t remember what I ate, but it was homemade, so it was a nice break from all that food I ate in restaurants.  I went upstairs, and checked for Anime, but there was none.  I listened to some more [email protected], and that killed most of my day.  I did try to catch up on my daily blog, but that didn’t turn out too good.  By the time I knew, the clock showed 5PM.  I took another nap for an hour, and ate dinner.  Today, it was veggies, with a nice leftover steak from the BBQ a few days ago.  After that, I listened to music, again, and did nothing.  I took a shower at around 9PM.  At 9:40PM, The [email protected] episode 6 came out, and I downloaded it.  I began watching it at around 10PM.

Now, it’s 10:30PM.  My brother’s at work, and I’m tired, so I’m going to sleep

More blogging to do later!

Summer Break: Day 43 – Aberdeen…again…

Well, as the title suggests, I went to Aberdeen yet again, but this time, it was for my aunt to buy dried salmon or something of the similar, along with pastries from the famous Kam Do Restaurant and Bakery, where we ate lunch and saw a friend.

And, again, I got milk tea, twice.  I got one at Kam Do, and one in Aberdeen, both within a two hour period.

Anyways, at night, we ate at Sushi Town (again!) with my LA cousins, and my Richmond cousins!  It was really good (of course).  After that, they all came over to our house and we watched some “Beautiful Cooking!,” which Uncle Jimmy copied to my brother’s computer.

We also ate apple pie, which my mom made, along with pineapple.

I honestly don’t feel like blogging right now…I’ve been deprived of my sleep.

Summer Break: Day 42 – Aberdeen and dinner.

Today, I woke up at 9:30AM.  Again, we did nothing until noon or so.  My grandma had to go for another eye appointment, but this time it was in Metrotown.  My parents went with her, and they left at 11:45AM.  At 12PM, my brother and I, along with Uncle Jimmy, my aunt, and my cousins carpooled to Richmond.  My uncle’s friend from a long time ago decided to call us out for lunch, and we ate at ABC Cafe in Aberdeen.  I have never been there, but the moment I walked in, I immediately noticed that it was expensive, and I was right.  Upon entering the restaurant , there was a person wearing a tie and a vest.  We were about to ask for a table for 7, but that person turned out to be uncle’s friend…and we almost mistook him as a waiter…LOL.  Anyways, the food was expensive.  I got (almost) the cheapest thing on the menu, and that was just chicken steak curry for $10.50, with no drink or anything.  Anyways, we finished eating, took some pictures, and walked around Aberdeen while Uncle Jimmy and his friend talked.  I ended up buying a milk tea from some other place other than Estea Express.  It was $2, and big.  I loved it.  Aside from buying a drink, my brother, Timothy, and I went and looked in some shops.  We looked at some interesting things, from 初音ミク (Hatsune Miku) posters (I WANTED ONE SO BADLY…but I had no money…and it was expensive…) to an iPhone 4 case that had a slide-out keyboard.  Things were pretty interesting.  We left at around 4:30PM, and as we left the Aberdeen parkade, we saw my parents pull up behind us, and we went to go and pick up some cake for desert after our dinner at Aunt Elaine’s house.  Unfortunately, my parents were behind us, and got caught by red light.  Instead of getting the cake, we went and stopped at this random store that was like an outlet for cheap stuff (not XS Cargo).  My parents came as well, and we walked around.  There was nothing much there, so we left 30 minute later, picked up the cake, and went to Aunt Elaine’s house.  We YouTube’d for a bit, listened to some music, ate dinner, ate some cake, and then left.  Nothing notable happened.

Anyways, I’ve had enough of blogging for today.  More to come later!

Summer Break: Day 41 – Lonsdale Quay, Chinatown, Korean BBQ. =D

Today was a another car trip.  I woke up at 9:30AM, and we did our own thing until 11:30AM.  My grandma was out with my parents to go for an eye appointment at 8:40AM in New Westminster, so they came back at around 10:15AM.  At 11:30AM, we headed out to Deer Garden for lunch.  Since I have never mentioned this restaurant before in my blog, you may have thought that I have not been here before, but I have…like 3 years ago.  This was because my dad banned it due to our one experience there that made us wait 45 minutes for a table that could have been ready in 10 minutes.  Anyways, it seems that my dad has “unbanned” it for some reason that I do not know.  The dishes were quite big and tasted pretty good.

After lunch, we went home to drop off my grandma, who did not want to go out with us.  At 12:45PM, we left to go to Lonsdale Quay, a place I haven’t been to in quite a long time…maybe like a year ago or two.  Anyways, the car ride was about 45 minutes long, and we got there at around 1:45PM.  We walked around the quay for about an hour and a half before getting bored.  After that, we left for Chinatown.  That took about 20 minutes to get there.  When we got there, we bought some oranges and went to pay our respects to my grandfather (on my mom’s side) in Chinatown.  We went back to the parkade (where we parked) and bought bread on the way to get a free hour of parking, or in other words, free parking, as we did not stay for over an hour.  We left at 3:30PM for home as my brother had to go to work at 5:45 or so.  We took the Barnet Highway instead of the Trans-Canada Highway.  We got home at around 4:15PM.  I listened to some music in the living room, and when my brother left, at around 5:15PM, I decided to take a nap for an hour.  After that, we left for dinner.

For dinner, we ate at Insadong, a Korean BBQ restaurant.  It was SO good.  There was lots of meat, and the kimchi was very very good.  I drank so much tea, that I had to go to the washroom, too.  The only thing that was not so good was the bill, which came to a total of about $120.

When we got back, my uncle wanted to play a movie, so we watched Inception =D, which I already watched, but it was good.  Anyways, that took a while, so by the time it ended, it was around 1AM.  Now, I have to go take a shower, and go to sleep!

Summer Break: Day 40 – Locally chilling…(^_^)…BBQ!

Today was a more “local” day.  The furthest we went today was to Costco in Port Coquitlam.  Anyways, my day started with me waking up at around 9:30AM.  I went downstairs, ate something (I forgot what I ate…sad…) and drank a glass of milk.  Soon after that, at around 11:30PM, we left for Costco to do some shopping, as Mason, Jessie, Uncle Toto, and Aunt Elaine were coming over to BBQ with us in the evening.  The first thing we did when we walked in was eat.  My dad bought me some chicken strips and fries.  It was okay…but so fattening.  At Costco, we bought meat, mushrooms, vegetables, honey, and other good stuff.

At around 2:45PM, we went to Home Depot, which was right beside Costco, to buy some new locks.  Our locks have become old, and it was time to replace them.  Sadly, this costed over $100 to buy 2 sets of deadbolts and door knobs.  Anyways, before we even purchased them, we took over 10 minutes looking at which brand of locks we wanted.  There was a cheap set of 2 deadbolts and 2 door knobs for $35, but we decided not to buy them because it was a Grade 3 lock, when the locks we bought were Grade 1 locks, a significantly better grade.

By the time we bought it, the time was 3:15PM.  We headed back home, and we were welcomed by Mason, Jessie, and Aunt Elaine, who arrived 30 minutes before we got home (and did NOT get in by picking the lock, but rather knocked on the door, and my grandma answered).  Eager to test out these new locks, I started removing the old lock.  I was scolded by my father because he didn’t want to do it yet, but Uncle Jimmy helped us out.

We, or rather, I started taking apart the lock on my front door at 3:30PM.  My uncle helped, and we noticed that the deadbolt had a rectangular plate, but my old deadbolt had a circular plate.  We decided that we needed to cut a little slot so that the plate could fit flat on the side of the door.  Unfortunately, halfway through this, we noticed that there were interchangable rectangular and circular plates.  We filled the beginning of what we cut with wood filler, and proceeded onwards.  After finishing the deadbolt, we tested it, and noticed that it did not close properly, so we had to cut a little bit of wood out of the hole where the deadbolt would sit when the door is closed.  After that, we tested, and it worked.  Now, it was time to change the door knob.  That took 10 minutes.  It was not as difficult as the deadbolt.  Anyways, I gave up halfway, and fell asleep on the tile floor near the stairs (I think taking a nap is a better way of putting it…xD).  My father woke me up at 4:20PM, and I helped with the next set of locks by the garage.  That set of locks took 10 minutes to install…5x faster than before (which was probably due to the fact we did not need to read the instructions again, and didn’t need to cut anything).

We had difficulties when replacing the lock.  The old deadbolts that were inserted were SO hard to remove.  We needed to use strength in order to make the deadbolt come out, and then used pliers to yank them out.

Anyways, I was exhausted by the end of this.  I sat on my sofa for 30 minutes, staring at the HDTV, which was currently being used to play LittleBigPlanet by my cousins (Mason, Jessie, and Jasmine).

The BBQ started at around 5:45PM.  We all helped set up, except my brother, who had to go work.  The BBQ consisted of us eating lamb, sausages, garlic bread, mushrooms, steak, chicken wings, and more food (I can’t remember; there was a lot).  I got fat, too, because I drank a coke, a Vita lemon tea, and a Vita soya milk.

After that, Mason, Jessie, Timothy, and I listened to some music in the other living room.  After that, we decided to play some Wii.  At first, we played Taiko no Tatsujin (太鼓の達人).  That was for 30 minutes or so.  At around 8PM, Uncle Toto arrived from his fishing trip.  We then played Wii Party.  Since I only had two controllers, I was limited to a certain number of games, but it was still fun.  We played for 2.5 hours, and at around 10:30PM, they [the Lee’s] had to leave.  It was fun having them over though.

Since I was very tired, I do not remember what I did after this.  It should have something do with my computer, though.  It would be either downloading music, watching Anime, or the similar.  Anyways, I know I went to sleep at around 1:45AM.

And with that, this entry is done…LOL.  More blogging to be done later!

Summer Break: Day 39 – Metrotown, Crystal Mall, Sushi Town…=D

Today was another regular day.  I was awoken by the sound of our contractor, Zarko, who came to do more minor touch ups on our kitchen.  I came down at around 9:45AM, and noticed that everyone except my grandma, my mom, and my dad were still sleeping.  Seeing that, and Zarko working, I headed back upstairs to check on my computer.  I also began to download more [email protected] MASTER ARTIST 2 albums online from NyaaTorrents, my favourite destination for East Asian anime stuff (for the past year).  When I began downloading, I headed downstairs, and was greeted by my uncle, aunt and cousins, who were awoken by the noise.  There were conversations, so I went back upstairs, got Call of Duty: Black Ops, and started playing on my 55″ HDTV downstairs.  I had some fail moments, but it was fun.

At around 12:30PM, my grandma was getting a bit hungry, so everyone in my house, except for my mom, dad, and our contractor, left for Copa Cafe.  I got myself a 沙嗲牛肉炒河 (Satay Beef on Thick Rice Noodle) with lemon tea (instead of my usual coffee milk tea).  Since there were 7 of us (my uncle, my aunt, my grandma, my brother, my two cousins, and me), we shared our dishes with each other.  They were all very good (yes, what a great description, I know…).

Coming back home at around 1:45, we did our own things.  I played some Dance Dance Revolution, while my brother was upstairs playing MapleStory, and Timothy was on his computer doing his own thing (maybe even MapleStory =D).  I think Jasmine was playing on her NDS.  The adults in the house sparked another conversation.  We did this until around 3PM, when we decided to head out on another trip.  This time, it was to Metrotown and Crystal Mall.  We got to Metrotown at around 3:30PM.  We did some window shopping, and paid a visit to the dollar store and Urban Behavior.  After those two shops, we headed over to Crystal Mall, where we did some window shopping.  When we were done with that, we headed back to Metrotown, and back home.  We got back at around 6:15PM.

We left for dinner at 6:40PM, which was Sushi Town.  It was so depressing, because we ate $105 worth of sushi…but it was so good…so I guess it kind of evens out.  Anyways, we got a party tray, California rolls, Awesome rolls, miso soup, tempura, and other stuff.  Mmhmm, mmhmm…=D.

After that, we went and filled up our cars with gas, and headed back home.  At home, we watched another movie called “Source Code.”  I found it quite similar to Inception.  Anyways, it was alright.  After that, I started to down-convert the [email protected] albums I downloaded in the morning.

There’s nothing more I did after that.  I just chilled, and now I’m tired.

More blogging later!
