Small Impromptu Family Reunion

Life events caused an impromptu family reunion. Just a small thoughtdump post.

Hi there, it’s been a while. My grandmother recently passed away, so our family had to sort out her funeral and the logistics around it. As a consequence of this, some of my cousins and uncles flew back from Ontario, California, and Hong Kong this past week. My mom and her siblings sorted out the funeral processions and burial within three weeks of her passing. As one might expect, it was quite an emotional rollercoaster of sorts, but we all made it to the end of her journey. Since the funeral was held in Canada, we filmed it to be able to show her relatives and friends back in Hong Kong that she is safely resting in peace with my grandfather.

With it sorted out, we were able to spend some family time, which we haven’t been able to do for the last two years due to COVID-19. My brother and I took our cousin, Tim, out to explore various places alongside our cousins Mason and Jessie from Ontario. We ate pork katsu, walked in a few parks, explored UBC, came over to our place to make coffee, ate Chinese food, drank bubble tea. Being able to be together as a group for the first time in over 3 years (the last time Tim came up was back in 2019) was really nice. Of course, we reminisced about my grandmother at times, but kept it more positive and upbeat since I think she would want us to be that way. I also had a chance to bring my girlfriend out for dinner with my family, where I also introduced her to my uncle Ken who hasn’t seen her before. I’m sure she thinks everyone in my family’s a talkative bunch.

Anyways, today my uncle Ken is leaving so we’ll have to drive him out to the airport. I didn’t take too many photos (and I don’t really upload ones with my face in them), so here’s a few additional photos of Hana and Syaro out at a park.

May was a turbulent month, so here’s hoping to a more positive rest of the year.

Until next time,
~Lui
